Joseph Halsey Crane (August 31, 1782 – November 13, 1851) was an attorney, soldier, jurist, and legislator. He was born in Elizabethtown, New Jersey[1] He was the son of General Wiliam Crane and Abigail (Miller) Crane and the grandson of Stephen Crane, member of the First Continental Congress, his brother was Colonel Ichabod B. Crane. Joseph Crane's great-grandson was the author Stephen Crane.[2]

He also served in the New Jersey General Assembly and New Jersey Legislative Council. Crane was part of the Congressional delegation that opposed separation from Great Britain which caused the state’s provincial congress to replace their entire delegation in June of 1776.
